Obesity Canada’s Clinician Partnership Program is a free, year-long opportunity designed to connect you with leading experts, build your skills, co-create and share best practices in obesity management.

This program is 100% funded thanks to an educational grant provided to Obesity Canada. But if you join and don’t complete the requirements by April 2026, a fee of $5,000 will apply.

Outline of Program

Zoom Into Our Virtual Meetings

We’ll host six, one-hour Zoom sessions throughout the year with your peers and Drs. Sean Wharton and Tasneem Sajwani. These sessions will cover case studies, host discussions, and be an opportunity to collaborate and connect. These sessions will be scheduled and booked once participants are selected to coordinate time zones across Canada.

Calibre Training: Your Roadmap to Expertise

Acceptance in this program includes complimentary enrolment into Calibre, our 5-week, accredited program for healthcare professionals looking to enhance their skills in obesity management.

With over 22 hours of accredited live and online learning, this five-module program provides practical, evidence-informed training tailored for the realities of your practice. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of obesity’s biological and environmental causes, alongside advanced treatment strategies that go beyond weight loss. This program focuses on practical, essential skills, including addressing weight bias, improving patient communication, and integrating obesity care into routine practice.

One-Day In-Person Workshop: Meet, Greet, and Collaborate

We’re bringing everyone together for a one-day, in-person workshop to learn, connect, and share ideas with peers from across the country. Airfare and one night’s hotel stay will be fully covered, and the location and date will be confirmed once participants are selected.

Criteria for Participation

  • Canadian physicians only: This opportunity is only available to physicians practicing in Canada. 
  • 100% attendance: Participants must attend all virtual and in-person sessions.
  • Complete the Calibre course: Complete Calibre by April 2026 in order to satisfy program requirements. This course is included at no cost to you if accepted into this program.

Meet the Mentors

Dr. Tasneem Sajwani is the Medical Director at the Edmonton Weight Management Centre. With a certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) and being a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians, Dr. Sajwani is dedicated to advancing obesity care and family medicine. Her leadership and expertise continue to drive impactful change in the field of weight management and primary care.

Dr. Sean Wharton has his doctorate in Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of Toronto.  He is the medical director of the Wharton Medical Clinic, a community based internal medicine weight management and diabetes clinic.  He is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and adjunct professor at McMaster University in Hamilton and York University in Toronto.  He is the lead author of the 2020 Canadian Obesity Guidelines and has published many peer-reviewed articles in international medical journals.

Funding

This program is offered at no-cost to you if you apply and are accepted and you complete all program requirements by April 2026. A $5,000 fee will apply if you fail to complete the course requirements by April 2026.
